Edge of Government is organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation
The Edge of Government innovation experience will challenge visitors to think in new and often counter-intuitive ways about how the most pressing public challenges of our time can be solved. The main purpose of the exhibits is to inform, trigger new thinking through experience, and most importantly inspire visitors to connect with the innovators behind the best practices and case studies showcased and ideally adapt/adopt the approach in their own context. Visitors will thus walk out of their immersive journey with the desire to move to action and turn this “Edge” into the mainstream.
Visitors will experience leading government innovations from across the globe
The global exhibits were evaluated across three key criteria and will only be showcasing innovation practices that go beyond “the usual suspects” – typically “below the radar” .
THE RESEARCH by PMO
The Thinking Behind the Research
Innovation in government is at the heart of good public administration and is not just about technology. It’s about a relentless commitment by high-performing governments to continuous improvement and new ways to benefit the everyday lives of citizens and empower them to help themselves– in health, education, the environment, and other sectors, ensuring trust and confidence in government itself. Incremental advances in these areas happen every day all around the globe, but looking closely at the most innovative advances, those at the very edge of government innovation, we find a unique set of common ingredients. These ingredients, taken together, point the way forward for others who would aspire to change things for the better for their own countries, towns, provinces, ministries, or agencies, anywhere in the world. They include:
An urgent need
Solutions featured set out to solve clearly defined, important, and urgent public problems, ones that are ubiquitous across the world
An added value
By being more responsive to its community requirements and expectations, innovative governments will build trust to fulfil sought out outcomes
A novel solution
New ideas and new ways at looking at problems, often counterintuitive or make use of exiting knowhow for radically new purposes. often free of the constraints of place
Someone willing to marshal the will and resources required to see each solution into practice, supported by a diverse team of contributors, both in and out of government
A willingness to experiment
Innovators must have a “protected space” for experimentation and not be in fear of failure as they go about the business of finding the next edge of government innovation

Fujairah: Escan Investment and Real Estate Development has started selling one of its projects in Fujairah as the property firm revives another project along the emirate’s coast in Dibba.
“The crisis is affecting projects in the UAE in general but Fujairah has a shortage of accommodation over the next two years. We’re part of building the supply required,” said board member and acting CEO, Saeed Al Mehairie.
The Al Fanar development, which was first announced at Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2007, presents three towers overlooking the sea, a 30-storey commercial building and a 37-storey residential abode.
It features designer apartments from studios to three-bedroom flats as well as four bedroom penthouses, equipped with smart home technology.
The third 20-storey tower’s use is still to be decided, Hamptons International is in charge of the feasibility study to determine whether it should be a hotel, as previously envisaged, or another commercial tower said Al Mehairie.
Set right in the heart of the city, the development easily connects to the new Dubai-Fujairah fast route which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, putting Dubai International Airport within 20-minute reach.
The Fanar Tower development is valued at Dh1.2 billion, Dh350 million land and the rest construction said Al Mehairie.
Construction is underway and will hand over in 2013. “We decided to only launch now because construction costs were very high. Now we saved 50 per cent, good for us and the end-user.”
The residential units have been launched at Dh600 per square foot. Payments are to be made quarterly with 35 per cent after handover. Prices for the office units are still to be decided, the developer added.
GCC residents will be able to own the units outright, while expatriates could buy through their companies as long as they are 51 per cent owned by an Emirati.
Al Mehairie reckons the projects proximity to Fujairah’s free zone and the port’s expansion will attract a lot of businesses wishing to buy or lease space.
Dubai’s Salwan Property management has been announced as the exclusive sales agent for 50 per cent of the project for the next six months.
Escan is also intending to forge ahead with the Golden Sand Beach Resort project, concept also announced in 2007, foundation work has been completed said Al Mehairie.
